Kelsey drank an iced almond milk latte and enjoyed it thoroughly. The coffee itself was cool as an iced drink should be but not so cold as to give you eye freeze. It offered a just about perfect blend of coffee and chocolate flavor. My iced mocha latte was quite honestly one of the best I’ve had in a while. This shop accepts cash as well as most major credit cards. In addition to coffee Breaking New Grounds also serves espresso as well as various pastries. COAST is also free to anyone holding a valid Great Bay Community College ID. However both buses are free with a valid University of New Hampshire ID. The fare for both COAST and Wildcat Transit is $1.50. However when UNH is closed the bus operates less frequently and does not operate on the weekends during those times. Wildcat Transit runs about every hour as well and operates seven days per week. While COAST does run on Saturday service is rather infrequent with often long gaps between buses. Service is rather consistent for a small town like Portsmouth with COAST route 2 running about every hour, and the COAST trolleys running every 30-60 minutes. If you are coming from Durham, Wildcat Transit route 4 runs from the UNH campus to Market Square, stopping at the Fox Run Mall. COAST also operates trolly routes 40 and 41 which operate to the Pease Tradeport and Fox Run Mall, as well as Great Bay Community College and HIllcrest Estates. COAST route 2 operates from Market Square to Rochester, passing the Fox Run Mall in Newington, and making various stops in Dover along the way. As for service you can get just about anywhere in the area using COAST and Wildcat Transit. The bus stop may take two pairs of eyes to find as it does blend in a little with the other shops. The nearest bus stop is located in front of Starbucks, which is across the street from Breaking New Grounds. Since Market Square is one of the busiest locations in Portsmouth, public transportation is abundant and mostly easy to figure out. On street parking is present on the surrounding streets. There is a parking garage on Hanover Street that offers rates as low as $1 per hour. This shop is located in the middle of Market Square and as such parking is an issue. The shop also features two doors to help keep traffic moving in and out. This is a very bustling area and often crowded. There is a patio area in front of the storefront that offers additional seating for nice days. Keep in mind that the high ceilings make for a slightly loud environment. Although a little dark feeling, the shop was large and offered plenty of seating for most occasions. Hours: Sunday-Thursday 6:30am-10pm Friday and Saturday 6:30am-11pmīreaking New Grounds is very popular with local residents and therefore was quite busy during our visit even though it was Monday afternoon.
